Artist's Description
This painting was commissioned by a WWII Vet in 2007. For 31 long months he called this Ship his home. This 175 foot Anti Submarine Ship was only 20 feet wide and housed 69 crew members! Referred to as a PC (Patrol Craft) by the crew, these ships played a vital role with their search and destroy missions. These 'small' ships were dwarfed by the huge destroyers they helped protect. Because of their small size they took a beating on the waves in the open seas, giving them a bad reputation for causing sea sickness. For those who could stomach it, the days were spent hunting submarines below and fighting off enemy aircraft from above. In this painting you will see the PC accompanied by a squadron of P51 Mustangs. After the War, this Ship (#1120) served as a vessel for the Peace Corps for many years.
About Cathy Cleveland
I love to paint with oils on canvas. Oil paints are such a timeless classic medium, they lend importance to even the most unassuming subject. I grew up drawing pictures, as any child does, but I couldn't seem to stop. One thing led to another and then I discovered oils! Painting is pure joy. Anything can be inspiration for a painting, but I find animals, especially horses, and Nature to be the best. I must not forget to mention my wonderful mother, who is quite an artist herself. She had a great hand in guiding and pushing my skills to where they are today. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Cathy, Can't believe I found a painting of a PC. My dad was on PC 574 during 1942-44. He was also at Pearl Harbor on December 7th on the USS Ramsay DM16. The PC's didn't get much attention but played a key role in WWII. Thanks for doing this painting. -Eric

Thanks Eric. I got quite a history lesson painting this one, a first hand account from one of it's crew members. He was so humble about his part in the war that changed our world. It was really a pleasure.
